Photoshop & Indesign labs

Hello!

Since not everybody has been able to hand in their solutions to labs 1-4 in Photoshop & Indesign, me and Anna will give you one more chance to show us your solutions. The time will be during lunch, 12:30-13:15, Thursday 6/12 (next week) in Violett/Turkos (E-building, 5th floor). Please do note that we will not have time to help you with any problems during this time since we expect that many people will come.

In case that you can't make it this time, please contact Christer Lie to work out a solution with him.

Regards,

Anna & Matts

DM2553: All terms and examination

Hi,

So, now it's 8 days left for the examination of terms of media technology. The day for the test will be 2007-12-06 (6th of December) between 17.00 and 18.00 in Loftet. You'll receive a list at the end of this week where you can see if you're going to do it at 17.00 or 17.30.

Earlier today, I published the rest of the terms in both systems
(SimpleLearn and the List of terms). I also made some changes about the list, which means that you're able to see both the term and the definition at the same time from now on. The list can be found at
http://www.simplelearn.org/terms_eng.php

In SimpleLearn you need to add a new list, the one named "Terms of Media Technology 2" which you'll find in the control panel, to see all terms.

So, now it's up to you to choose how you want to study for the last week. If you have any question, don't hesitate to mail me at annamalm@kth.se

I've also heard that some of you would like to see what kind of question that you'll get at the test. Therefore, I list some typical questions below, all five types.

1. Fill the gap
One byte is equal to [ ] bits.

2. True or false
Singback is the definition of a performance when the artist is singing live to music from a record.
[ ] True
[ ] False

3. One-choice-quetion (only one answer is correct)
What's a PDA?
[ ] It's computer unit smaller than a laptop (portable computer).
[ ] It's the port for a microphone at the computer
[ ] It's a flat screen that can be used as a computer screen as well as tv-screen.

4. Multiple-choice-question (one to five answers are correct)
Of the following options, who are the right description of a cardioid microphone?
[ ] It's "deaf" at the back
[ ] It takes up all sounds from the sides
[ ] It's most sensitive for sounds at the front
[ ] It's most sensitive for sounds at the back
[ ] It's always a red microphone

5. Free questions (decribe the term after the instruction/question)
Describe the term animation, what it is and how you make it.

Good luck!
/Anna

DM2553: SimpleLeran

Hi,

my name is Anna and I'm the person who is investigating and evaluating the learning method spaced repetition that you've got the opportunity to try. You were introduced to the method yesterday and you also got the instructions about the assignment from Björn. I would just like to inform you that we got a small problem with the server last evening which made it impossible for you to register as a new user. Today everything works perfect, so if you had some problem yesterday, please try again today or tomorrow.

If you have any question about SimpleLearn or the assignment, don't hesitate to send me an e-mail at annamalm@kth.se

/Anna

mmmep07:Questionnaire reminder

If you receive this email you have not yet completed the questionnaire "Spaced Repetition Questionnaire", available in PinPong/Bilda under "Survey". This, along with the use of "SimpleLearn" is a requirement for passing the course, and since you as per the instructions sent out earlier today have to use the software at least 5 of the upcoming 8 days, it is essential to start using it very soon.

If you have any questions, please ask me at bjornh@kth.se or Anna at annamalm@kth.se.

/Björn

mmmep07: Assignments

Hi!
Now I have uploaded instructions for the task of learning media technology terminology, which is a mandatory part of the course. The instructions are under Documents->Interactive Media->Assignments. I also attach it to this email.

Also, the final mandatory lab assignment for my part of the course is now published on the web page. I will decide on a deadline for this lab and the CSS lab after I have checked out your progress today, but probably the deadline for the CSS lab will be early next week, and the DTD lab will be the following week.

That's it for now.

/Björn

mmmep07: Tomorrow's lab

Hello!
Tomorrow (thursday) afternoon you have scheduled lab time in "Loftet", where the focus should be the CSS lab available at the course homepage. Like I mentioned before, you can do the lab anywhere, anytime, but if you have trouble or questions you hopefully can get answers tomorrow.

However, pleast note that I will not be able to be there tomorrow (I have to be at home with my son who has got a cold). Instead Matts Bengtzén, one of my excellent student lab assistants, will be there to help you. You also will meet Matts and Anna (the other lab assistant) later during your prepress labs.

I have made a booking system in order to keep track of who is next to get help at the lab. It's available from the course homepage or directly at http://www.hedin.mobi/labblista/

I haven't had time to go through your other assignments yet, but I will do so as soon as possible.

Finally, for those of you who want to work from somewhere else, you will find instructions at http://www.sgr.nada.kth.se/services/afs/afs_hemifran.html.en

I think that was it for now. Good luck with the lab, and I'll see you next week!

DM2553: Some information about the Interactive Media part of the course

Hello!

Below follows some information about the assignments handed out last week, as well as some other information:

* I forgot to make a place in PingPong for the "Web 2.0 Assignments" as described at http://www.csc.kth.se/utbildning/kth/kurser/DM2553/mmmep07/lab/interactive_media/
This has now been fixed, so if you go to pingpong (http://bilda.kth.se) and log in to the course activity under Events->DM2553 (which I noted many of you haven't done yet), and click on "Content" to the left, you will find the place you can hand in this assignment, as well as Lab 1 and Lab 2.

* Lab 1 and 2: So far 4 people have handed in links for lab 1. The deadline is on Wednesday, but there is still plenty of time.

* Lecture handouts part 1: I have placed pdf-files suitable for printing for the powerpoints I used at my lecture last week, in PingPong (under Documents->Interactive media).

* Lecture handouts part 2: I have also posted the same presentations at Slideshare in a group I have created for the course. This gives a nice meta-perspective, since Slideshare is an excellent example of a Web 2.0 application. Also note that you can write comments to each slide. I'll try to read comments and answer if possible. The address is http://www.slideshare.net/group/mmmep07
The address is also available in PingPong under Documents->Interactive Media->Links

* Discussion forum: I have added two discussion groups in PingPong (visible under "Discussion"). The first one is for discussing the Web 2.0 assignment, and the second one is for discussing lab 1 and 2. Please ask questions you may have regarding the lab assignments there, and also answer your fellow student's questions. There is a checkbox for each forum for receiving notifications of new posts by email, I recommend you check these.

* Blog: I have now added a blog to which all messages sent out by the teachers during the course will be stored (not attachments though). The address is http://mmmep07.blogspot.com/

* Shared bookmarks: Finally, a reminder to add bookmarks to del.icio.us, using the course tag as described in the Web 2.0 assignment. The bookmarks are available at http://del.icio.us/rss/tag/mmmep07/

I think that was it for now, I will see you next week and then the topic will be data structuring using XML and DTDs.

/Björn
